Description
Currently 3D Ultrasound Tomography (USCT) reconstructs attenuation images from the measured signal data by an Algebraic Reconstruction Technique (ART). A straight ray approximation is used and the attenuation of the sound wave is detected from the acquired signal data. Yet, the detected attenuation of a signal consists of a reflection loss due to scattering and a tissue specific absorption. Especially the tissue specific absorption is of interest for medical interpretation since it is known from literature that certain absorption behavior (often modeled by the power absorption law) is indicative for tumor tissue. In this thesis the aim is to explore potential methods to reconstruct the absorption part from the attenuation measurements only, i.e. to separate reflection losses from absorption either on signal basis or in the image space. Methods should first be evaluated on simple synthetic examples, e.g. based on k-Wave simulations before applying them to experimental data.Requirement
